“A ship in port is safe; but that is not what ships are built for. Sail out to sea and DO NEW things.”
– Amazing Grace Hopper – Computer Pioneer and Naval Officer known as “Grandma COBOL”
Admiral Grace Hopper is credited with popularizing the computer term “bug in the system.”
She discovered a dead moth in a computer that was causing problems for the circuitry. Upon removing the moth and fixing the issue she declared there was a “bug in the system” and she had “debugged” the problem. The phrase caught-on and has become a part of the computer nomenclature and even modern culture.
